Women's and Gender Studies
Women's and Gender Studies examines the function of gender, often in tandem with race, class, sexual orientation, and sexuality, in shaping histories, cultures, institutions, identities, and academic research agendas. This concentration is a multidisciplinary program dedicated to understanding and interpreting the female and male experiences as they are reflected in the scholarship of several academic fields of study. In shape and focus, the program is broad enough to include a wide range of approaches while still allowing students the opportunity to develop and pursue individual disciplinary interests. Students who do not choose to become concentrators have the opportunity to explore Women's and Gender Studies through individual courses and through the various lectures and discussions sponsored by the program.
