Women's and Gender Studies

This concentration, currently housed in the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, is an interdisciplinary program dedicated to understanding and interpreting women’s and men’s experiences as they are reflected in multiple academic fields of study. Women’s and Gender Studies courses explore how gender, often in concert with race, class, sexual orientation, and sexuality, shapes histories, cultures, institutions, and identities. The concentration embraces a broad range of scholarly approaches while still allowing students to pursue individual disciplinary interests.  Students who are interested in Women’s and Gender Studies, but who do not choose to become concentrators, also have many opportunities to explore Women’s and Gender Studies by taking individual courses and by attending lecture and events sponsored by the concentration.
