Program Requirements

We are especially interested in students who have spent time working with school-age children in various capacities, such as summer camps, SPUD, other volunteering opportunities, or tutoring, either in high school or at Holy Cross, and who are committed to equity in education.

In order to complete the TEP and apply for Initial license in Massachusetts, students need to:

1. Apply to the Teacher Education Program.

2. Complete a major in the same subject area in which you wish to teach.

3. Complete a set of subject-specific academic courses according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requirements.  (Most of these fall within the Holy Cross major requirements and are met in #2 above.)

4. Complete the Education Department's program of study.

5. Complete at least 100 hours of supervised pre-practicum.

6. Apply for acceptance into and successfully complete the Practicum semester.

7. Pass the 2 Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL). (Communication & Literacy test and the specific Subject Matter test.)
