Application
Admission Requirements
Before making an application to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) which leads to a Massachusetts license to teach as a middle school or secondary school teacher, you must qualify by:
- Completing the foundation courses prior to applying to be accepted into the TEP
- Majoring in one of the teaching subject areas
- Maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Completing a formal application that includes a transcript, 2 letters of recommendation, and a personal statement
Application process
Applications to the TEP are due either September 28, 2012 or March 15, 2013. Note that the full application, along with all the materials, which include the letters of recommentation should be delivered to the administrative assistant in Stein 443 by the due date.
1. Complete the application
2. Write a personal statement of no more than two pages (double-spaced) explaining your intentions for becoming a teacher. It should include personal experiences, your developing philosophy of education and pertinent personal characteristics.
3. The following recommendation forms must completed by two sources who know you well. At least one of the two should be a Holy Cross faculty member.
4. Print a copy of your latest transcript.
Post Application: You will be invited to interview with the Teacher Education Program committee once all application materials have been reviewed.
Note: Admission to the program is limited to 20 students a year and 10 students in an academic subject.
Students need to have a full semester in the fourth year free from other courses in order to be on site for the teaching practicum, five days a week, for the entire semester. This practicum and accompanying seminar will be equivalent to four courses at Holy Cross. The Education Program requires that no other course work is attempted at this time. Licensure candidates are required to pass the MTEL.
