Research interests: recent European philosophy, "classical" American philosophy, social and political philosophy, metaphysics and natural science
Lawrence Cahoone received his Ph.D. from Stony Brook University. He is the author of The Dilemma of Modernity: Philosophy, Culture, and Anticulture (SUNY 1988), The Ends of Philosophy: Pragmatism, Foundationalism, and Postmodernism (SUNY 1995, reprinted Blackwell 2002), Civil Society: The Conservative Meaning of Liberal Practices (Blackwell 2002), Cultural Revolutions: Reason versus Culture in Contemporary Philosophy, Politics, and Jihad (Penn State, 2005), and editor of From Modernism to Postmodernism: An Anthology (second edition, Blackwell 2003). His course Modern Intellectual Tradition: Descartes to Derrida is available on CD and DVD from The Teaching Company. His most recent book The Orders of Nature is forthcoming from SUNY Press.
