Philosophy Department

For students interested in deepening their ability to think reflectively, the Holy Cross philosophy department offers courses that span the entire tradition—from the pre-Socratics to contemporary philosophers. With its concern for the fundamental questions about the nature of reality; the foundations of science, ethics and art; and the scope of human knowledge, philosophy becomes the “meeting place” for all disciplines since any discipline becomes philosophical once it begins to examine seriously its own methodology and fundamental presuppositions. Faculty and students together benefit from regular departmental colloquia and the lively exchanges initiated by the Philosophy Club, open to all interested students, and Phi Sigma Tau, the International Honor Society for Philosophy.
