The Department of Music and the College of the Holy Cross announce the availability of a Four-Year, Full Tuition Scholarship to a high school senior who will major in Music.

Candidates must demonstrate outstanding accomplishment in the area of instrumental/vocal performance or composition, as well as significant academic achievement. Holy Cross offers a full curriculum in music history and theory, a distinguished faculty with international reputations, and opportunities for private study and participation in both large and small music ensembles.
Application Guidelines
In addition to the regular Application for Admission to the College, students applying for the Brooks Music Scholarship must also submit the following materials to the Department of Music:
1. A music resume detailing the student's background, experience and teachers.
2. An essay (approximately one page) describing the student's goals and reasons for wanting to major in music.
3. Two letters of recommendation, sent under separate cover. One letter should be from the student's current private vocal/instrumental or composition teacher; the other letter should be from another music teacher or professional musician with whom the student has worked.
4. A recording of the student's playing or singing. Composers should submit at least two scores.
RECORDINGS
Applicants should submit a cassette tape, CD, DVD, or a video recording of their playing or singing.
The recording should be of the best possible quality. [poorly recorded material will not be considered].
On your recording, please include:
1. Your name, address, phone number, and high school.
2. Selections recorded, with composer, title, movement, and key.
3. Your name on the cassette tape, CD, DVD, or video itself.
Guidelines for Performers:
1. The recording should include two selections in contrasting styles.
2. Piano accompaniment should be provided where applicable.
3. Orchestral excerpts are not acceptable unless the applicant is a soloist.
4. The recording should not exceed 15 minutes in length.
Guidelines for Composers:
1. The application should include scores of two works you have composed.
2. If available, please also submit a cassette tape or CD of your work.

The College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA, is offering a full tuition undergraduate scholarship, renewable on a yearly basis, beginning in the fall of 2012 (class of 2016) for an Organ Scholar. The recipient of this scholarship will have at his/her disposal the 1985 four manual, fifty stop mechanical action organ built by Taylor & Boody Organbuilders, located in the beautiful Saint Joseph Memorial Chapel. The awardee will assist the College Organist as needed in all aspects of the chapel music program. The awardee must major in music, study organ privately for four years and have a career goal in church music and/or organ performance; the awardee will be strongly encouraged to study voice and conducing as well. Applicants for the scholarship should have some experience in church music; a strong background in keyboard studies and good sight reading skills are required.
A letter of intent, a detailed résumé of the applicant’s studies and musical experience, a complete list of the applicant’s organ repertoire, a CD or DVD recording (no tape recordings will be accepted) of three works and one hymn (an introduction and three verses, as if playing for a good singing congregation) and three letters of reference are to be sent to Prof. James David Christie, Department of Music, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA 01610. After formal application to the College and upon receipt of all the applicant’s materials, Prof. Christie will contact the applicant for a personal interview and audition at Holy Cross. Please write directly to the Admissions Department, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA 01610, for a catalogue, all necessary application forms and financial aid information; there is no special form to apply for the organ scholarship, but the applicant must inform the Admissions Department that he/she is applying for the Holy Cross Organ Scholar position for the class of 2016. Deadline for submission of all the above required applications for the organ scholarship application is November 15, 2011.
