Visual Resources Library
The Visual Resources Library supports the image needs of the Visual Arts Department and the wider campus community. Currently, the Visual Resources Library staff is in the process of building a local digital image collection which will be seamlessly searchable via the ARTstor platform. During this transitional phase, users can fulfill their classroom image needs by searching the ARTstor Digital Library subscription of over one million images. For information on searching for images visit the Finding and Using Images LibGuide or contact the Visual Resources Coordinator for further guidance. Optimized Mac and PC computers are available in the Library for access to all image resources available through Holy Cross.
In addition to digital resources, the Visual Resources Library also offers approximately 100,000 35 mm slides of architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, and functional art (e.g. furniture and ceramics) for classroom use, accessible by appointment in the Slide Study Room, Fenwick 404. Developed as a teaching resource, the slide collection reflects the topics of courses offered in the Visual Arts Department. Roughly 40 % of the total slide collection is searchable online through the slide library catalog. Individual slides can be digitized for academic use as needed.
The Visual Resources Library also maintains a collection of DVDs and VHS tapes to support the study of art and related culture. Videos circulate to faculty as needed; viewing stations are provided in O'Kane 497 for students. The entire video collection is searchable in the library catalog.
