Instructions to apply to medical school

    • Apply early:  Medical schools have rolling admissions policies.  Submit your AMCAS (MD) and AACOMAS (DO) materials as close to early June as possible.  August is likely too late.
    • Consider applying to about 20 schools:  Use the online MSAR (MD) and Osteopathic Medical College Information Book (DO) to help guide your choices.  These resources provide acceptance rates for in and out of state applicants, special requirements, test score and GPA ranges, etc.
    • Wait for MCAT:  It is generally a good idea to wait until you have your MCAT scores in hand to apply.  Applying with a poor score can result in an unsuccessful application.  However, if you are confident you will score well, you can apply to a few schools on June 1 to start processing your application with AMCAS/AACOMAS.  Send us a copy of your MCAT score.
    • Submit your MD and DO materials to the Holy Cross HP office together.
      • Submit all materials to Holy Cross at once and not piecemeal:  this will speed up the process.
    • Complete the AMCAS (MD)/AACOMAS (DO) application
    • Indicate that your letter will be in the form of a "committee letter."
    • Enter Ms. Mickie Casello as the primary contact
      • If additional letters will be sent by us, do not list them as "additional authors."  We will send them from our office.
    • Send official transcripts from Holy Cross and any other places you took classes to AMCAS/AACOMAS
      • The request form is available in the AMCAS application and should be sent to the registrar's office.
    • For MD schools:  Print out the AMCAS letter request form which lists your AMCAS ID and AMCAS Letter ID # and list of schools  you are applying to and mail it to the Health Professions Office (PO Box PREMED).  Include one envelope addressed to AMCAS (return address HP Office) along with two first-class stamps not affixed to the envelope and a list of your schools in alphabetical order.
    • For DO schools:  Type a list of DO schools in alphabetical order with your AACOMAS ID number at the top and print it out.  Mail this list and your AACOMAS ID number with self-sealing business envelopes addressed to each DO school (return address:  HP office).  Include two first-class stamps for each school, not affixed.
    • If you are applying to both MD and DO schools: provide a list of all the schools together in alphabetical order.
    • Inform Ms. Casello of every interview invitation you receive as well as every school that accepts or rejects you.
    • Periodically review the list of schools where you have open applications or acceptances
      • After you are accepted at a school, if there are other schools you will definitely not go to, please withdraw your application to open up a spot for another student.
