Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College

Timothy R. Austin, Ph. D.

Dean Timothy R. Austin was born in England and attended Oxford University before coming to America for graduate work. He earned his Ph.D. in linguistics at the University of Massachusetts in 1977 and then taught at Loyola University Chicago for twenty-four years, chairing the English department there from 1996 to 2001. Dr. Austin served as dean of the college of arts and sciences at Creighton University in Omaha for five years before joining Holy Cross in 2006. He has written two books and a number of scholarly articles about the language of poetry as well as informal essays on other topics in the area of higher education.

As vice president for academic affairs and dean, Dr. Austin provides leadership and day-to-day management for all facets of the academic life of the College. He also serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet and plays a role in setting strategic priorities for the College.
