Associate Dean for Faculty Development

Amy R. Wolfson, Ph.D.

Amy R. Wolfson grew up in Connecticut and completed her B.A. in Psychology from Harvard University in 1982.  She went on to complete her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Washington University, St. Louis, in 1987.  She continued west and was a Post-Doctoral researcher in the Psychology Department at Stanford University from 1988-1990.   Coming to Holy Cross in 1992, Professor Wolfson taught courses on mental health, health psychology, women's studies, and sleep and circadian rhythms.  She is completing the Sleep-Smart study, a longitudinal study of urban, middle school students' sleep patterns and hygiene, behavioral well being, and academic performance, funded by the NICHD.  She has served on several major College committees and on the Student Life Council. Most recently she completed a term as Chair of the Psychology Department.

The Associate Dean for Faculty Development is dedicated to facilitating excellent teaching, scholarship, and service by assisting faculty members in recognizing and realizing their own potential.  She oversees the College's orientation programs for new faculty and Foreign Language Assistants, its mentoring program, and its Mellon Postdoctoral Teaching Fellows program. The Associate Dean works with the Office of Grants and Corporate and Foundation Giving to identify possible funding sources and facilitate the application process for individuals' scholarly projects. She also identifies and prepares the materials to nominate faculty members as candidates for prestigious national awards.  In her role of Associate Dean, Amy Wolfson will also be overseeing the new Andrew W. Mellon Foundation funded Center for Teaching.
