Major and Concentration

The Chinese Major

  • 10 courses on Chinese language, literature, culture, and civilization as follows:
  • A minimum of 6 courses in Chinese language or Chinese literature in Chinese at the 200 level or above including at least 2 at the 400 level. Majors who study abroad in their junior year must complete two courses in Chinese literature at the 400 level or above in their senior year at Holy Cross.
  • A minimum of 4 additional courses taught in English or Chinese, including:
    • Chin 103: Introduction to Chinese Culture
    • 1 course on Chinese literature
    • 2 additional approved courses on China focusing on art, cinema, economics, history, linguistics, literature, politics, society, or religions

Concentrations in Chinese or Asian Studies, and Majors in Chinese Language and Civilization or Asian Studies, are offered by application to the Center for Interdisciplinary and Special Studies. See the Asian Studies website for more information:
