Biology Department Curriculum
The Department offers a wide variety of courses for majors and non-majors. Those for Biology Majors are designed to provide a thorough grounding in modern biology and to prepare students for careers in research, medicine, industry and teaching. Students who are not majors may take these courses, especially if they are members of the Biochemistry and Biological Psychology concentrations or if they are Environmental Studies majors or concentrators.
Likewise, courses for non-biology majors provide rigorous introductions to a number of fields of basic and applied biology while at the same time they are accessible to students with less background in biology than is possessed by a typical biology major. Many of the courses (referred to as Biological Principles Courses) are specifically designed for students with little science background while others are designed to provide an intensive year of basic biology for non-biology premeds or a semester of introductory biology for psychology majors.
Please note that beginning with the Class of 2016, incoming students will operate under the new curricular requirements (see link in list below) and will not enter the College as declared majors. Students in the present class of 2015 may elect either the new or the present curricuium.
